TRAINING COURSE FOR UTTARAKHAND HORTICULTURE OFFICERS





LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 18:-----



A five-day training course on "Postharvest handling of horticultural crops for domestic and export marketing" was organised here on-campus by Punjab Horticultural Postharvest Technology Centre (PHPTC). The course saw the participation of eight Uttarakhand Horticulture officers and three PAU Krishi Vigyan Kendra scientists.



Dr B.S. Ghuman, Director, PHPTC and Professor, Processing and Food Engineering, PAU, highlighted the importance of postharvest technology for fresh horticultural crops and discussed the challenges faced by Indian produce in export markets. He told that the PAU experts from the Departments of Floriculture, Microbiology, Horticulture, Business Management and Soil and Water Engineering delivered lectures during the course.



Dr B.V.C Mahajan and Jatinder Kumar, Coordinators of the training course, imparted hands-on-training on harvesting, packaging, storage, ripening techniques and value addition of fruits and vegetables. The trainees were also shown various packhouses and postharvest facilities at Namdhari Seeds, Kohara, Field Fresh, Ladhowal and Modern Fruit and Vegetable Pack House, Ludhiana, they informed.
