Vet Varsity and NABARD develop collective measures for farmer’s sake

A 25 member delegation of National Bank for agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) visited Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University. The delegation comprising top officials of bank along with 15 District Development managers of different districts of Punjab, witnessed different projects of university. Delegation was led by Sh. Kishan Jindal Chief General Manager, Sh. D.C. Sharma GM and Sh. H.S. Bhatti GM. The contingent interacted with Dr. V.K. Teneja Vice Chancellor on different issues regarding livestock professions. Experts from both sides shortlisted the areas on which Vet Varsity & NABARD may work mutually. Each year NABARD organized one such meeting in a research institute with specialists of fields to express their views and look possible collaborations between research/educational institutes. These interactions help to design the projects for the benefits of farmers. It also helps in transfer of technology. NABARD may provide every type of economic funding to farmers for development. The delegation visited Veterinary Clinics, Poultry Farm, College of Fisheries and Dairy Farm of University. Dr. V.K. Taneja VC and Dr. Kulbir Singh Sandhu Director of Extension Education accompanied them.

Dr. Taneja said that earlier extension services of agriculture and livestock professions were same but now a days with intervention of Vet Varsity we are developing exclusive extension services for livestock profession, so more and more people are adopting these profession especially dairy farming. Dr. Taneja said that they hope that NABARD will extend cooperation for not only development of livestock professions but also to popularize value addition of Products for more profit to farmers. He also emphasized the need of integrated system of farming.

Dr. Asha Dhawan Dean, College of Fisheries described them the technology of water and pond cleanliness with duckweed. She also explained the benefits of Azolloa as feed and fish farming project in saline water.

Mr. Kishan Jindal CGM of NABARD said that bank may help farmers in a number of ways. Vet Varsity's technologies can give a boost to livestock profession with economic help from bank. He said that we have many schemes like farmers club, self help group, joint liability group, farmer technology transfer fund, which are beneficial for farmers individually and collectively. He revealed that we also give our cooperation in seminars, Projects, Publications and media to improve agriculture and rural life. We were working with Vet Varsity on different issues but this visit will accelerate both sides to work collectively on new avenues.
