Raju released from jail

HYDERABAD, November 6, 2011(Tehelkanews)

Thirty four months after his arrest in January 2009 in the multi-crore Satyam Computers scam, its former chairman B. Ramalinga Raju, was released from Chanchalguda central jail on Saturday evening along with his brother Rama Raju and ex-chief financial officer Srinivas Vadlamani after the Supreme Court granted them bail.

Their lawyers submitted two sureties of Rs 2 lakh each on behalf of each of them in the trial court where the case of accounting scam in the company is being heard. The magistrate later directed the jail authorities to release them.

At around 5 p.m., a posse of media crew gathered outside the jail to record the exit of the trio. As soon as Mr. Ramalinga Raju emerged out of the narrow opening in the huge wooden door, a security cordon was thrown around the Honda CRV car by which he went to his house in Jubilee Hills.

He was followed by Mr. Srinivas Vadlamani and Mr. Rama Raju, a former managing director of the company who left in separate cars. The media contingent followed them upto their homes.

Mr. Ramalinga Raju spent 32 months in jail during which he suffered a heart attack and got admitted to NIMS in September 2009. He was hospitalised again two months later for treatment of Hepatitis 'C\' infection.

The High Court granted bail to the remaining accused in August last year but they were sent back to jail on orders of the Supreme Court within three months. Barring Mr. Ramalinga Raju, Mr. Rama Raju and Mr. Srinivas Vadlamani, all the others were released on bail by the Supreme Court last month.

A total of 10 persons are accused in the case, of which one of them Mr. Suryanarayana Raju is on anticipatory bail ever since the scam broke out in January 2009.

He is also a brother of Mr. Ramalinga Raju. Another accused Talluri Srinivas, an auditor, was released on bail by the Supreme Court in February last year.
