POST PONENEMENT OF SEMESTER SYSTEM IN COMMERCE UNFORTUNATE: PCMA

Punjab Commerce and Management Association has termed the decision of the Panjab University not to implement the semester system in the commerce system from 2011-12 as unfortunate and not in the interest of the students. President of the Association Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha said that if we wish to provide education with the global standards to our students to bring global competencies then we have to implement semester system with choice based credit system in the colleges. Executive Vice President of the PCMA Dr. Ashwani Bhalla who is also secretary of the Faculty of Business Management and Commerce, Panjab University Chandigarh said that it is the need of the hour that our students should be equipped with latest aspects of knowledge to make them ready for employment in the industry but it is unfortunate that certain forces in the university for their vested interest are coming as a road block to implement the innovations in commerce education. He said that Panjab University has a history to take lead in implementing the world-class curriculum in the courses but some how few principals of rural colleges as well as aided colleges are not understanding the need of the students and giving the cry of funds, declaration of results and shortage of staff as the reasons for not implementing the semester system. He said that all the rural and aided colleges are getting the huge amount of grants from the University Grants Commission under various schemes in the name of rural colleges and modernization of education but are not ready to implement the policies of the UGC. Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha said that Punjabi University Patiala has already implemented semester system in B.C.A/'B.B.A/ Bachelor of Acconting and Finance and B.Com (Professional) from the session 2010-11 and it is successfully running. He said that in the meeting of the University held on 29th April 2011 it was unanimously decided that semester system would be implemented in B.Com from the session 2011-12 for which all preparations has been done. Dr. Ubha said that a demand charter will be sent to the University Grants Commission New Delhi, Chancellor of the University Dr. Hamid Ansari and the Vice Chancellor Dr. R.C. Sobti to intervene and use their authority to implement the semester system in the colleges from 2011-12.
