Beijing, May 26, 2011 (AP)

Chinese businesses play a major role in Myanmar's economy and hundreds of thousands of Chinese citizens live in the country.

Myanmar's president is in Beijing for a state visit and talks with the leaders of one of his isolated government's closest allies.

Thein Sein (TANE SANE) arrived on Thursday afternoon on his first state visit since being appointed president in February. The trip underscores the importance of China to the military—dominated government. Beijing provides the country crucial economic support, military assistance and diplomatic protection at the United Nations.

During the three—day visit, he is due to meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao and oversee the signing of economic agreements.
