Pawan Dewan takes charges as DCC president



LUDHIANA, May 26: The newly appointed District Congress Committee President Pawan Dewan today formally took charge of his office in presence of senior party leaders MPs, MLAs, councillors and thousands of party workers.

Dewan was led to the party office in the Clock Tower in a cavalcade of cars. He was accompanied by the Ludhiana MP and National Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress Manish Tewari, former minister and PCC general secretary RC Dogra, who had specially been deputed by the PCC President Capt Amarinder Singh.

At the Congress office Mr Dewan was received by the outgoing DCC president Mr Jagmohan Sharma who handed him the charge and wished him best of luck for his new assignment.

Before taking over the charge in the Congress office, a function was held at Kumra Palace where leaders congratulated him and thanked the Congress President Ms Sonia Gandhi and the PCC President Capt Amarinder Singh for appointing Dewan as the DCC President.

Addressing the function, Manish Tewari said, the presence of thousands of people from all over the district including the leaders, legislators, former ministers, councillors, youth and Mahila Congress workers, was an endorsement of Capt Amarinder Singh's decision to appoint the right person as the DCC president.

Tewari said, Dewan had a great responsibility on his shoulders. He said, the very fact that so many people had attended the function today should make him (Dewan) realise that people had great expectations from him. He hoped that he comes up to the expectations of everyone well and performs the role he has been chosen for by Ms Gandhi and Capt Amarinder to perform.

Expressing his gratitude to the party high command including the Party President Ms Sonia Gandhi, the PCC President Capt Amarinder Singh and Mr Tewari, Dewan promised that he will come up to everybody's expectations. He said, he will continue to work as a sincere party worker. He said, this was both a challenge as well as an opportunity for him to serve the party.

Speaking on the occasion Mr RC Dogra, who had specially been deputed by Capt Amarinder to represent him, said, Dewan was held in highest esteem by the party leadership. He said, Capt Amarinder Singh specially asked him to be present at the taking over ceremony since he could not come himself due to some last time engagement.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Fatehgarh Sahib MP Sukhdev Singh Libra, Ex minister Ramesh Dogra, MLAs Jassi Khangura, Isher Singh Meharban, Gurdeep Bhaini, Harmohinder Singh Pardhan, Surinder Dawer, Malkiat Singh Birmi, Sushil Malhotra, Gurmail Pahalwan, Dimple Rana and others.
