THOUSANDS PAY FLORAL TRIBUTES TO SURINDER KAUR BADAL EN ROUTE KIRATPUR SAHIB

KIRATPUR SAHIB (ROPAR) MAY 27:

Amidst chanting of Gurbani by thousands of mourners across the state, the ashes of Mrs. Surinder Kaur Badal, the wife of Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal and mother of Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal were immersed by them in the river Satluj at Gurdwara Sri Patalpuri Sahib Patshahi Sixth.

The ashes of Mrs. Badal contained in an urn (Kalsh) were brought from her native village Badal here at Gurdwara Sri Patalpuri Sahib in a special flower decked vehicle in which the Chief Minister accompanied by his son Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, his daughter Preneet Kaur and daughter-in-law & Member Parliament Bathinda Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur along with his grand children besides his son-in-law Food & Supplies Minister Mr. Adesh Partap Singh Kairon and the former Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia. This vehicle was followed by a cavalcade of hundreds of vehicles carrying thousands of people from all walks of life who had come to pay their tributes.

Earlier, the ashes were gathered from the cremation ground at village Badal by the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister besides their other family members and relations including former Member of Parliament Mr. Gurdas Singh Badal and his son former Finance Minister Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal. Meanwhile, the President SGPC Mr. Avtar Singh performed the Ardas ceremony before the gathering ashes (rasam phul chugan). The cavalcade which started from village Badal at 10 am reached its final destination at Sri Kiratpur Sahib at 5 pm via Malout, Bathinda, Maur, Mansa, Sunam, Bhiwanigarh, Patiala, Sirhind, Morinda and Ropar. Thousands of people were standing in queues on both sides of the road en route to Kiratpur Sahib to pay their homage to Mrs. Badal and showered flower petals.

Earlier, at Gurdwara Patalpuri Sahib Jathedar Takhat Sri Keshgarh Sahib Giani Tarlochan Singh recited the Path Sri Japuji Sahib and performed the Ardas ceremony before the immersion of ashes. Later Mr. Badal accompanied by his son Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, his daughter Mrs. Preneet Kaur and Son-in-Law Mr. Adesh Partap Singh Kairon immersed the ashes of Mrs. Surinder Kaur Badal.

Eminent religious and spiritual personalities including Head Damdami Taksal Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma, Sant Baba Nihal Singh Harianavelan Wale, Baba Labh Singh Kar Sewa Wale and President SGPC Mr. Avtar Singh.

Several prominent leaders and dignitaries who were present at Sri Gurdwara Sri Patalpuri Sahib during the immersion of ashes included SAD Secretary General & Member Rajya Sabha Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, General Secretary SAD & Member Rajya Sabha Mr. Balwinder Singh Bhunder, SAD Vice Presidents Mr. Gurdev Singh Badal, Mrs. Paramjit Kaur Gulshan, Mr. Sher Singh Gubhya (both Members Parliament), Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike, Mr. Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Mr. Hira Singh Gabria, Dr. Upinderjit Kaur, Mr. Janmeja Singh Sekhon, (all Cabinet Ministers) former Deputy Speaker Lok Sabha Mr. Charanjit Singh Atwal, Mr. Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Mr. Mohinder Kaur Josh, Mr. Des Raj Dhuga, Mr. Jagdip Singh Nakai, Mr. Mohan Lal (all Chief Parliamentary Secretaries). Mr. Gobind Singh Longowal and Mr. Madan Mohan Mittal (both former Ministers) besides Advisor to Chief Minister Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema and Media Advisor to Chief Minister Mr. Harcharan Bains and Member Punjab SS Board Mr. Gurcahran Singh Grewal were also present. Apart from these several MLAs, senior leaders and party workers of SAD-BJP and Members of SGPC also present.

Top brass of state Civil and Police administration including the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. DS Guru, DIG Ropar Mr. MF Faroqui besides Deputy Commissioner Ropar Mr. GK Singh and SSP Ropar Mr. Jatinder Singh Aulakh were also present.
