Soyabean is best alternative for lactose intolerant patients: Dr R.T Patil

CIPHET transfers technology of soyabean processing to a local farmer



Ludhiana, October 19:

Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology today transferred technology of soyabean processing in to milk and paneer (tofu) to a local farmer/entrepreneur Gurdeep Singh for commercial scale production. Notably, soyabean milk is highly useful for diabetic and patients of cardio vascular diseases.

Transfering technology to Gurdeep of village Kartarpur, Dr R.T Patil said that while outmost care was given to cow milk after production, in case of soybean milk extra care was required during its production. He said that due to high nutritious value and low chances of adulteration soyabean milk was fast gaining popularity. "Soyabean milk is the best alternative for people suffering from lactose intolerance," he said, adding that still lot of market potential of soyamilk was lying untapped.

Dr Devinder Dhingra, Senior Scientist, who has done intervention on the technology, said that number of products now could be developed from soyabean. He added that research shows that 25 gram of soyafood per day reduces the risk of some types of cancer by as much as 40 to 50 percent. Gurdeep Singh said that after finding lot of potential in soyabean milk, he decided to get technology from CIPHET. "The entire project would cost me around 4 to 5 lakh," he added. Head Transfer of Technology Dr Deepak Raj Rai said that CIPHET has developed number of technology and farmers/entrepreneurs should make best use of them.
