Trial runs start on Sarita Vihar- Badarpur Metro section

New Delhi : The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation started the trial runs on the Sarita Vihar- Badarpur section that is part of the 15 km Central Secretariat-Badarpur line on Monday night. The 5 km section was initially scheduled to open before the Commonwealth Games but was later deferred.

According to sources, the section will be thrown open to commuters in the next few weeks ahead of Diwali.

Trial runs began on the section following the energisation of the over-head electrification. This stretch has three stations--Mohan Estate, Tughlakabad and Badarpur.

According to a DMRC spokesperson, train services on this line will be extended till Badarpur after the completion of the trial runs followed by the clearance from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety.

"During the trial runs, the interaction of the Metro train with physical infringements (civil structure) will be checked to ensure that there is no physical blockage during the movement of the train on the track. The entire signalling system will also undergo rigorous testing," the spokesperson said.

In addition, the response of the train at different speeds, braking of the train and the interconnection with the Operations Control Centre will also be monitored during the trials. The behaviour of the track system and the overhead electrification will be checked repeatedly during all the trials.

"This line was one of the most challenging lines to construct for DMRC as the total time available for the construction was extremely short," the spokesperson said.

The Central Secretariat – Badarpur has stations at Central Secretariat, Khan Market, JLN Stadium and Jangpura, Lajpat Nagar, Moolchand, Kailash Colony, Nehru Place, Kalkaji Mandir, Govindpuri, Okhla, Jasola-Apollo and Sarita Vihar,Mohan Estate, Tughlakabad and Badarpur Metro Stations.
