Bihar boat tragedy: 18 dead, 100 missing

Kakdwip, West Bengal: At least 18 people have drowned and over a 100 are still missing after a crowded trawler capsized in the Muriganga river near Sagar Islands in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal yesterday.

The authorities fear the toll could rise.

The trawler was sailing from the Hijli Sharif shrine in East Midnapore district to Kakdwip when it capsized.

There were many women and children on board.

The Navy has been called in to assist rescuce operations, and fifty people have been rescued so far.
