Amit Shah gets conditional bail

AHMEDABAD : Setting aside the special CBI court\'s order, the Gujarat High Court on Friday granted conditional bail to the former Minister of State for Home, Amit Shah, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh-Kausar Bi murder case.

Justice R.H. Shukla also rejected the CBI plea for a three-week stay on the decision and issued orders to the jail authorities to release Mr. Shah at the earliest after completing the formalities.

He was arrested by the CBI on July 25 when he had gone to the agency\'s office in response to its summons to answer questions on his alleged role in the murder. After his arrest, he resigned from the Narendra Modi Cabinet.

The BJP legislator from Sarkhej in Ahmedabad, Mr. Shah was set free on a personal bond of Rs.1 lakh and asked to report once every week for the first three weeks and then once in a month at the CBI\'s Mumbai office.

State BJP spokesman Vijay Rupani said the order had only given credence to the party\'s charge that Mr. Shah\'s arrest was a politically motivated, Congress-CBI conspiracy, and that he was innocent.
