PAU HOLDS INTERACTIONS ON WATER MANAGEMENT ON FOOD SECURITY



LUDHIANA, DECEMBER 20:-----



An interactive meeting on \'Water management for food security in Punjab\' was held at the PAU College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, today. The officials of National Rainfed Authority (NRAA), Planning Commission, Govt. of India and M/s Wapcos India Ltd., Gurgaon participated and discussed plan to conduct survey of declining water in different blocks of Punjab. Dr. Sahadeva Singh, Deputy Commissioner (Crops) and Head, PPC Unit of NRAA highlighted the relevance of the survey in view of declining water table in different regions of the state. Dr. P.P.S.Lubana, Dean of the College said that PAU has developed several water saving technologies and added that PAU has a priority research agenda for developing technologies aimed at natural resource management. Dr. C.J.S.Pannu, Coordinator of Research (Engg.) highlighted the need for maintenance of canals, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, rainwater harvesting, etc. Dr. Yadwinder Singh, Dean, College of Agriculture explained the water scarcity problem in central districts of Punjab and the efforts that have been made to address the problem through research based technologies and their transfer to the farmers. The participants were shown around demonstrations and exhibits put up by different departments of PAU. Dr. A.K.Jain, Head, Department of Soil and Water Engineering proposed vote of thanks to all participants.
