Sensex rises 71.18 points; Sterlite, RCom, DLF gain

Indian equities continued to rise for the fourth day on Wednesday. The Sensex is trading in the positive terrain. At 10.16 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 71.18 points or 0.35% at 20,131.50 with 21 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 21.70 points or 0.36% at 6,022.35 with 39 components gaining.



The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 58.50 points or 0.29% at 20,118.82, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 18.35 points or 0.31%, at 6,019.



Sensex Movers



State Bank Of India contributed rise of 14.04 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Sterlite Industries (India) (10.65 points), Bharti Airtel (7.52 points), H D F C Bank (7.3 points) and Tata Motors (6.47 points).



However, Tata Consultancy Services contributed fall of 10.97 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Wipro (5.13 points), I C I C I Bank (3.9 points), Reliance Industries (3.84 points) and Hero Honda Motors (2.42 points).



Major gainers in the 30-share index were Sterlite Industries (India) (2.89%), Reliance Communications (2.24%), D L F (1.51%), State Bank Of India (1.40%), Jaiprakash Associates (1.35%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (1.31%).



On the other hand, Wipro (1.40%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.29%), Hero Honda Motors (1.13%), Cipla (0.46%), Bajaj Auto (0.37%), and Maruti Suzuki India (0.31%) were the major losers in the Sensex.



Mid & Small-cap Space



The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.83% and 1.02% respectively.



The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Core Projects and Technologies (4.24%), Alfa-Laval (India) (1.58%), Ackruti City (1.39%), Aban Offshore (1.38%) and Alstom Projects India (0.16%).



The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A B G Infralogistics (2.53%), A B G Shipyard (2.03%), INEOS ABS (India) (2.01%), Provogue (India) (0.74%) and Aarti Industries (0.67%).



Sectors in Limelight



The Realty index was at 2,820.65, up by 52.65 points or by 1.90%. The major gainers were Indiabulls Real Estate (2.87%), D B Realty (1.74%), D L F (1.51%), Ackruti City (1.39%) and Anant Raj Industries (0.78%).



The Metal index was at 17,335.45, up by 238.40 points or by 1.39%. The major gainers were Hindustan Zinc (3.87%), Bhushan Steel (1.73%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.31%), Hindalco Industries (1.24%) and JSW Steel (0.25%).



The PSU index was at 9,421.07, up by 76.26 points or by 0.82%. The major gainers were Bank Of India(1.12%), Andhra Bank (1.06%), Bank Of Baroda (0.88%), Allahabad Bank (0.88%) and Balmer Lawrie & Company (0.35%).



On the other hand, the IT index was at 6,635.08, down by 44.12 points or by 0.66%. The major losers were Tata Consultancy Services (1.29%), Mphasis (0.99%), H C L Technologies (0.88%), Infosys Technologies (0.11%) and Patni Computer Systems (0.08%).



Market Breadth



Market breadth was positive with 1,703 advances against 646 declines.



Value and Volume Toppers



Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,019.96 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 409.19 million), Indiabulls Financial Services (Rs. 299.48 million) and Tata Steel (Rs. 256.73 million).



The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 10.24 million shares. It was followed by Ispat Industries (6.83 million), Birla Power Solutions (5.02 million) and City Union Bank (4.49 million).
