Sensex trades below 20k; TCS, Tata Motors dip

The Sensex continues to trade on a flat note on the back of profit booking seen in select heavyweights. Capital goods, auto, metal and consumer durable stocks edge lower. At 11.18 a.m, the Sensex was trading down 21.05 points or 0.11% at 19,994.75 with 17 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 0.40 points or 0.01% at 5,984.80 with 23 components gaining.



The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 23.03 points or 0.12% at 20,038.83, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 21.50 points or 0.36%, at 6,005.90.



Sensex Movers



Larsen & Toubro contributed fall of 15.98 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (11.94 points), Tata Motors (8.03 points), Tata Steel (6.37 points) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.93 points).



However, Infosys Technologies contributed rise of 14.43 points in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (7.08 points), NTPC (5.34 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.49 points) and Sterlite Industries (India) (2.97 points).







Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were NTPC (1.30%), Sterlite Industries (India) (0.81%), Infosys Technologies (0.71%), H D F C Bank (0.69%), D L F (0.56%), and Wipro (0.51%).



On the other hand, Tata Consultancy Services (1.41%), Tata Motors (1.38%), Tata Steel (1.21%), Larsen & Toubro (1.17%), Hindalco Industries (1.05%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.99%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.



Mid & Small-cap Space



The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.17% and 0.18% respectively.



The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (1.49%), Core Projects and Technologies (0.76%), Allahabad Bank (0.28%), Anant Raj Industries (0.09%) and A I A Engineering (0.01%).



The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A B G Infralogistics (15.55%), INEOS ABS (India) (1.26%), A B G Shipyard (0.95%), Aarti Industries (0.93%) and Abhishek Industries (0.3%).



Sectors in Limelight



The HC index was at 6,507.89, up by 38.10 points or by 0.59%. The major gainers were Divis Laboratories (1.4%), Dr Reddy`S Laboratories (0.88%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (0.52%), Glaxo SmithKline Pharmaceuticals (0.2%) and Aurobindo Pharma (0.03%).



The Realty index was at 2,778.54, up by 9.91 points or by 0.36%. The major gainers were D B Realty (1.82%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.88%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers (0.73%), D L F (0.56%) and Anant Raj Industries (0.09%).



The IPO index was at 1,914.43, up by 4.81 points or by 0.25%. The major gainers were Adani Power (1.77%), BS TransComm (1.65%), Bedmutha Industries (0.77%), Aqua Logistics (0.5%) and Aster Silicates (0.45%).



On the other hand, the Capital Goods index was at 15,104.59, down by 122.41 points or by 0.8%. The major losers were Crompton Greaves (1.34%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.99%), Bharat Electronics (0.49%), BGR Energy Systems (0.37%) and Alstom Projects India (0.24%).



Market Breadth



Market breadth was negative with 1,257 advances against 1,167 declines.



Value and Volume Toppers



The volume chart was led by Ispat Industries with trades of over 11.85 million shares. It was followed by A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (10.59 million), Cals Refineries (9.94 million) and Karuturi Global (5.37 million).
