State survives with central funds only

LUDHIANA, December 23: Ludhiana MP and national spokesperson of the Indian National Congress Manish Tewari today said, the Akali-BJP government in the state was surviving on the central funds.

Addressing a series of functions in various villages in Dhaka assembly segment along with MLA Jassi Khangura and others Tewari said, the state government had run out of funds and was already bankrupt.

He pointed out, had it not been the central funds which are being provided to the state so generously, the state would have been bankrupt. However, Tewari regretted, "the Akali-BJP government in Punjab was too ungrateful to acknowledge it".

Tewari disclosed that all the funds the state government was spending through Zila Parishads were granted by the centre. However, the some local Akali leaders were trying to pass these on as those from the state government which was far from truth.

The Ludhiana MP also issued cheques worth several lakhs of rupees for various development projects. Most of these grants were given for the education and hospitals, which he said has been his priority.

Tewari said, he was personally monitoring utilisation of all the grants so that these are properly spent and reach the desired quarters.

He was accompanied by senior party leaders Pawan Dewan, Malkiat Singh Dakha and others.
