DR. KANG RELEASES A BOON ON BONSAI

LUDHIANA, DECEMBER 21:-----

Bonsai is an art form that descends from ancient, oriental culture, originating in China and developed by the Japanese. The Japanese collected and potted wild trees that had been dwarfed by nature, in the 13th century. They perfected the techniques of preparing bonsai and tried on different plants. When demand for the tiny trees outgrew the supply, Japanese gardeners began to train bonsai from native trees. They shaped the trees to give them the illusion of age. This was stated by Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU after releasing the book \'Bonsai-Ik Kala\' authored by Col. Avtar Singh Brar of New Delhi. Dr. Kang said that the bonsai plants are popular among the urbanites. He said that in Japan some farmers earn from bonsai preparation and hoped that the art can also be taken up by Punjabi farmers and nurserymen. Dr. Kang congratulated him for publishing the book that he said will be useful to the bonsai enthusiasts.

The 93 page book in Punjabi highlights various operations required for preparing bonsai. This do it yourself (DIY) kind of book provides practical hints about the steps required for preparing and maintenance of bonsai, said the author Col. Brar. He had earlier published a book on bonsai in English in 2006. Present in the book release function in the Vice-Chancellor\'s office were Dr. Ranjit Singh Tamber, former Additional Director of Communication, Mr. Anoop Singh, Dr. Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Additional Director of Communication and Mr. Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Editor Punjabi. They appreciated Col. Brar for presenting useful information on bonsai in Punjabi language.
