\'3/4th of Muslim board wants Ayodhya dispute settled by negotiations\'

LUCKNOW: After Hashim Ansari, the 90-year-old original plaintiff in Ayodhya title suits, made the first move for an amicable settlement to the vexed issue, moderates in All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) were in agreement with the idea of negotiations to end the dispute.

\"Nearly three-fourths of board members want a solution through mutual talk and mediation,\" said Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangimahali, a member of the board and naib imam of Lucknow. He added that the matter will finally be decided upon by the board on October 16.

Although causing discomfort to hardliners in the ultra-conservative board, the other prominent minority outfits — All India Ulema Mashaikh Board (AIUMB), the apex body of Barelvi sect and All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) — have come out in open support of any peace bid.

The AIMPLB has convened a meeting of its working committee on October 16 to discuss the matter. The venue of the meeting, significantly, has been shifted from Delhi to Lucknow, which has the largest presence in the committee.

All 51 members are expected to work out the final cohesive strategy. Representing the moderates, AIMPLB member and naib imam of Lucknow, Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangimahali said, \"The time has come for both parties to sit down and make sincere efforts to resolve the dispute.\" Rashid told TOI on Monday that \"going to the Supreme Court is the last option and must be resorted to only after the talks fail\".
