UT to finally transfer seven functions to MC

CHANDIGARH: The ball has been set rolling for transfer of seven functions from UT administration to the municipal corporation. A formal intimation was sent to the corporation by UT local bodies department so that the proposal could be taken up in the forthcoming general house meeting on Friday.



The seven functions that the administration is contemplating to transfer to MC include all V3 roads, all remaining parks and green belts which have not been transferred earlier, existing civil dispensaries of the health department in sectors 8, 11, 19, 220, 23, 26, 33, 35, 38, 40 and 42, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Punjab civil secretariat, Industrial Area, Hallomajra, Kajehri, Maloya, Dadu Majra, Manimajra housing complex, UT secretariat and district courts.



Besides, primary health care facilities in sectors 18, 25, 21, 30, 31, 38 (West), 48 and 63, poly-clinic in Sector 49, 30-bedded ayush hospital in Maloya and 100-bedded maternity hospital in Maloya II, which are proposed to be constructed by CHB will also be transferred to MC.



The existing government primary schools in Sectors 12, 26 (timber market), Butrela, Mauli Complex, Railway Colony, Manimajra no 1 and 2, primary schools at 11 places (on 11 sites identified by CHB for construction of schools).



The administration has asked the MC to place the matter before the general house for discussion on the proposal and convey the views so that a notification could be issued for transfer of these functions.



UT has also proposed to transfer the employees posted in these departments for a period of six months during the transition phase.



In the meanwhile, the administration would assess its own manpower requirement to see how many of the employees would be adjusted against the vacant posts in the administration and how many would be invited to join MC from among the employees of the administration. Action would be taken for transfer of such employees only after getting their willingness. The proposal to create additional posts by the MC would also be considered.
