Another entrance test for courses in remote sensing

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University has decided to conduct the entrance test for masters in remote sensing and GIS courses under geography department once again on August 9 after the earlier test held on July 8 received an uninterested response.

The last date for the submission of form is August 5. Meanwhile, the varsity has extended the dates for applying for admissions in various other courses, following lukewarm response.

Sources said against 28 seats on offer, only nine candidates had applied. Out of the five who appeared in the exam, four qualified and finally only three opted for the course.

The course that commenced during the last academic session had got low response even then. The entrance test was conducted twice, despite which only six seats were filled.

Laying the onus on ignorance among the students, department chairperson Krishna Mohan said besides, the department gave more stress to the quality of students and only those who qualify the test were selected.

The department has also invited applications for MA in disaster management that still has 16 seats lying vacant. The last date to apply is July 29.

The university has also extended the date for applying for admission in MSc (instrumentation) in which out of 20 seats, only three have been filled up.

The other courses include MA in music (Instrumental) that has nine seats lying vacant and MA in arts history and visual arts that has 16 seats on offer. Sources said most of the courses for which the admission process would be held again are self financed.
