\'Healthy eating habits prevent chronic diseases\'

Ludhiana: "Healthy food is almost as important to healing as competent medical care. And, healthy eating habits play a vital role in preventing chronic diseases, such as heart ailments, diabetes and some cancers," said Dr GL Avasthi, director (medical services) in a private city hospital, while inaugurating 'Healthy Food Initiative'.

Kanika Goyal, executive dietitian, said the hospital was striving to meet the need of low-fat, low-cholesterol, immune-boosting foods that could aid in recovery and promote health of patients.

"Purer and cleaner the food, the better is its ability to improve the health of people," Kanika said.

Chefs from famous hotels of Ludhiana cooked a healthy menu for associates and patients of the hospital. Four days 'Food Fiesta', a cooking show, was organised in the hospital to mark 'Healthy Food Initiative'.

The menu included continental, Italian, Chinese cuisines, salads, soups, snacks and shakes.
