Cops, CPM should be prepared for Soren backlash, warns Naxal leader

GOALTORE (WEST MIDNAPORE): The guerrillas in Jangalmahal are getting ready for retaliation. A day after Monday\'s encounter, in which senior Maoist leader Sidhu Soren and five \"elite militia members\" were killed, a People\'s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) \'area commander\' told TOI on Tuesday: \"Ask police and CPM to prepare themselves for more shocking attacks.\"

TOI spotted the \'area commander\' early on Tuesday at a forested hamlet near Sarenga — close to the Bankura-West Midnapore border. Guarded by eight armed PLGA members, he was looking confident. Showing the SLR he was carrying, the guerrilla leader smiled and said, \"This was looted from the Silda camp. Though we have lost two AK rifles and three more sophisticated arms looted from Silda, we will soon procure more arms in the same way.\"

Days before the Maoist \'martyr\'s week\', his words hinted that rebels in Jangalmahal are preparing themselves to take revenge of two encounters, in which they lost 14 comrades.

\"The loss of Sidhu is indeed a major setback. But we will find a competent replacement. Sidhu was a good fighter and a strategist. It was because of him and his team that armed CPM cadres and joint forces couldn\'t enter the huge forested stretch between Goaltore and Sarenga,\" said the \'area commander\'.
