Fire at Rajiv Chowk metro station

New Delhi : Delhi Metro rail services on Line 2 (Central Secretariat-Jehangirpuri) were affected for over an hour on Tuesday following a technical fault that resulted in tripping of the overhead electrification.

While DMRC officials maintained that train services remained affected for an hour from 1.40 p.m., several commuters complained that the fault resulted in trains arriving late on Line 2 as well as Line 3.

A DMRC spokesperson said there was repeated tripping of the overhead electrification after flashes were noticed on the rear pantograph of a train at Rajiv Chowk, which was on its way from Central Secretariat to Jehangirpuri at 1.40 p.m.

"Potential transformer that is housed in insulated material of a train failed which resulted in tripping of the overhead electrification. The emergency trip system was used to cut off supply to the overhead electrification by the metro staff at Rajiv Chowk station after flashing was detected on top of the train on account of potential transformer failure," the spokesperson added.

A train on its way to Jehangirpuri from Central Secretariat also had to be evacuated at Patel Chowk as train movement was stopped on the line but this train was still inside the tunnel with passengers. DMRC officials claimed that de-boarding of the passengers was done for their safety.
