Suvidha centre: Officials asked to scout for better space

MOHALI: After finding that the suvidha centre situated here lacks certain facilities, principal secretary (information technology) Sarvesh Kaushal on Tuesday directed the officials to find a spacious location for it so that residents could be provided with better services.

Kaushal during his visit to the suvidha centre found that it was being run from a cramped space in the district administrative complex.

While the government has provided 36 types of services in the suvidha centres, Mohali residents are being offered

just 20.

Moreover, against the requirement of 25 computers, the centre is operating with only nine. The facilities that are missing from this centre relate to pension, passport application, birth and death certificates, issuance of ration card, small savings, submitting telephone bills, documents attestation, late entry of birth and death, electricity bills, driving and arms licences and other types of forms, sources said.

After the issue of inadequate manpower was brought to Kaushal\'s notice by deputy commissioner P S Mand, he assured that three data operators would be appointed within a week .

E-governance would be introduced in the district shortly at a cost of Rs 3 crore.
