Khatta Meetha already making profits

Akshay Kumar must be secretly grinning away to glory. After receiving brickbats from all corners for his insolent smile next to an ailing Laxman, Kumar has done it again! Even as the critics completely rubbished his latest release Khatta Meetha, the film has managed to make the box office

tinkle.

Kumar\'s performance as the aam aadmi has impressed the junta especially the single screen goers. The film has already grossed over 20 crore in the first three days of its release.

Interestingly, the film made profits even before its theatrical release. The film was made in 30 crore. A TV channel paid 12 crore to obtain its rights, overseas rights went for 5 crore, music for 4 crore and 2 crore for home-video rights. To sum it all, the film made 23 crore even before its release.

A trade source told Mid-Day, \"Khatta Meetha was made with a budget of Rs 30 crore (including print and publicity) and has already made Rs 48 crore in pre-sold rights and digital revenues even before the movie hit screens on Friday.\"

Priyadarshan, director of Khatta Meetha felt that the film stuck a chord with the common man and that is why it has been doing well despite poor reviews.

Khiladi Kumar told the tabloid, \"It turned out to be a win-win situation as they bought the film under recession. If my distributors are happy I am happy. Also I\'m pleased that the film has worked with the masses. The film is about the common man and if they have liked it, that works for me.\"

Incidentally, last year the Salman Khan starrer, Wanted did excellent business in single screen theatres and not so well in multiplexes but managed to make hefty profits.
