Suicide in church : Cops arrest woman

CHANDIGARH: Three days after the alleged suicide of a 18-year old maid, Maya, in the Don Bosco Navjeeven Church in Sector 24B, cops registered a case of abetment to suicide and arrested a 30-year-old woman, Mercy Sabastion, on

Tuesday.



The accused is the mother of 21-year-old Anop Sabastion, with whom Maya had close relations.



The case was registered under Section 306 of the IPC at Sector 11 police station. Accused Mercy was also residing in the church.



Maya was found hanging in her room, reportedly bolted from inside, on July 24. Her maternal aunt Manju had been alleging a foul play since the incident occurred.



SHO, Inspector Sukhbir Singh Rana, said that a case was registered after recording the statement of Monika, who is the younger sister of deceased.



Monika had claimed that Maya was disturbed before going to her room on July 24 and she had disclosed that Mercy had threatened her by saying that she would never allow Anop to marry Maya.



However, the maternal aunt of deceased maid, Manju alleged that the church father, Sabastion Gose was also involved in the crime as all circumstantial evidences indicated the role of father Gose. The accused would be produced in the district court on Wednesday.
