TRS wins 11 out of 12 seats in by-elections

Hyderabad : TRS candidates emerged victorious in eleven of the twelve assembly constituencies in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh where the by-elections were held recently and the BJP retained the lone seat held by it.

The TRS nominees won from the five assembly constituencies whose results were announced in the early hours on Saturday.

In Huzurabad, TRS candidate E Rajendra defeated his nearest TDP rival by a margin of 55,360 votes. In Koreatla, TRS candidate K Vidyasagar Rao won by a margin of 45,895 votes against his Congress rival J Ratnakar Rao.

In Sircilla, TRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao's son K T Rama Rao won by a majority of 44,642 votes over his Congress rival K K Mahinder Reddy. In Yellareddy, TRS candidate E Ravinder Reddy defeated his Congress rival Mohammad Ali Sabire.

In Warrangal West constituency, TRS nominee D Vinay Bhaskare trounced his Congress rival by a margin of 67,524 votes. The results of the five constituencies came late, as ballot papers were used for polling as a number of candidates exceeded the maximum limit of 64 for an EVM. TRS has bagged six constituencies whose results were announced yesterday.

The BJP retained the lone seat of Nizamabad it contested.

The by-elections were necessitated as the sitting MLAs —10 from TRS and one each from TDP and BJP— had quit their post in support of separate Telangana demand.

The TDP MLA has subsequently joined TRS and won from Vemulawada in the current elections.
