STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN ELOCUTION, EXTEMPORE AND CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITIONS ON DAY TWO OF THE PAU YOUTH FEST

LUDHIANA, OCTOBER 22:-------

On the second day of the PAU youth festival, competitions for elocution, extempore and creative writing were held, today. Dr Gurkirpal Singh, Estate Officer-cum-Chief Engineer was the Chief Guest while Dr (Mrs) Jaswinder K. Sangha, Librarian presided over. The competition was held in the Students\' Home Auditorium.

Dr Gurkirpal Singh said that participation in extra curricular activities help the students to express their talent and creativity. He said that youth festivals provide students with opportunities to showcase their talent, in addition to their curricular programmes. Participation in speeches and oration help develop their faculty of being good oraters that remain with them even after their studies, he said. Dr Singh congratulated the student participants for the confidence with which they made their points.

Each of the four constituent colleges of PAU had teams in each of the three competitions held today.The students were given the topic 'Nurturing the child for nation building' on which they expressed their views within the allotted time. For extempore, the students were given topics for speaking on the topics that they chose through draw of slips. The topics such as 'What will you do, if given full power, Your choice of bollywood actress, what improvements you will make if you were made the PAU-VC, programmed life, joint family, etc. The students enthralled the audience with their ex-pressions.

Dr. (Mrs) Sangha in her presidential remarks said that students must take part in extra curricular activities. She provided useful tips for excelling in elocution, extempore and creative writing and shared her experiences. She appreciated the students for their excellent views, communication skills and the confidence that they displayed.

Earlier, in the series of youth fest events, the HAAS RAS poetry contest was held in which students entharalled the audience with their composition recitations. Dr M.S.Gill, Director Extension Education was the Chief Guest while Dr S.S,Gosal, Additional Director of research ( agriculture) presided over. They said that although PAU is a science university, yet it encourages extra curricular activities among students to inculcate confidence among them and this lead to the development of their overall personalities.

At the outset, the Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology-cum-Director Students Welfare, Dr. P.P.S.Lubana welcomed the Chief Guests, the participants and other dignitaries and said that the PAU inter-College Youth Festival will conclude on October 30. He said that the formal inauguration will be held on October 28. The stage was anchored by Dr. S.S.Hundal.The panel of judges included Mr. Niranjan Singh Tasneem, an eminent novelist,Mrs Surinder Kaur Galsinh, former Head of English Department at MTSMCW, Ludhiana and Er Surindera Singh, Director of STEP Park at GNDEC, Ludhiana. Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Additional Director Comunication, Dr Nirmal Jaura, Cultural Coordinator and Mr Satbir Singh, Welfare Officer were among those present.
