The British finance minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, has announced the biggest cuts to UK public spending in decades.
Most government departments will face an average cut of nearly 20% in their spending over the next four years and job losses of nearly half a million are predicted in the public sector.
The retirement will age will rise to 66 by 2020.
