PAU ORGANIZING WORKSHOP ON MARKET INTELLIGENCE

According to Dr. J.S. Sidhu, In charge of the Agricultural Marketing Information Centre (AMIC) at PAU, a 4 day post-Rabi season workshop is being organized in the Department of Economics and Sociology, which will be inaugurated by Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU on February 28 at 11.00 a.m., and will conclude on March 3, said Dr. Sidhu, adding that participants from 11 State Agricultural Universities will deliberate on the activities carried out in their respective AMIC Centres.

Dr. Sidhu highlighted that the progress made will be reviewed and future plans will be discussed. Sharing about the AMIC at PAU, he said that it was established under the National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) of the World Bank with a mandate of fore-casting price of commodities before the sowing and during harvesting of 10 major crops. The major objective of the NAIP project is establishing and networking of agri-marketing intelligence centers in India with a lead centre at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU).

He said that in all four (two pre-season and two post-season) workshops are organized for Rabi and Kharif crops. Dr. Sidhu said that the market information generated from the analyses is delivered through electronic and print media and is of great use to farmers for taking decisions regarding sowing as well as marketing of their produce.
