(PAU) CROP PRODUCE COMPETITION AT PAU KISAN MELA

A crop produce competition is being organized at Punjab Agricultural University Kisan Mela on March 17-18, informed Dr M.S. Gill, Director of Extension Education, PAU.



Giving details, Dr Gill said that besides the competition of the recommended varieties of vegetables including, potato, onion, green onion, green garlic, carrot, brinjal, radish, turnip, tomato, peas, chappan kaddu, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber, green chillies, sweet pepper, and other seasonal vegetables, the competition will also be held of other crops such as sugarcane (recommended), shakker, gur, turmeric etc. He added that competition will also be organized in fruits and floriculture comprising ber, lemon, guava, kinnow, papaya and other seasonal fruit. Among the floriculture, samples of gladiolus, rose, marigold, gerbera, carnation and other flowers will be received.



Dr Gill further informed that the samples of the produce will be received at the stall provided for produce competition near Kairon Kisan Ghar on March 17 till 11.30 am. The undersize sample of any produce will be rejected, said he. Giving an overview of Kisan Melas to be held in March, Dr Gill said that PAU will hold a series of six Kisan Melas. The first mela will take place on March 8 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rauni (Patiala), followed by that at Faridkot on March 10, at Ballowal Saunkhri and Bathinda on March 11 and 14. Kisan Mela at PAU campus will be held on March 17-18, said he, adding that the last mela will be organized at Gurdaspur on March 22.
