ALL INDIA INTER-AGRI-UNIVERSITIES SPORTS MEET

LUDHIANA,

According to the PAU Director Students Welfare, Dr. P.S.Aulakh, the PAU contingent of 40 students participated in the XXIIth All India Inter-agricultural Universities Sports & Games Meet (2010-11) at Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur from February 16-20, participated in volleyball (M), basketball (M), badminton (M&W), table tennis (M&W) and athletics (M&W). The PAU won 7 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals during the meet. The University has won the overall championship in the meet, said Dr. Aulakh. In basketball (M), badminton (M), the PAU team won gold medal by defeating the team of HAU Hisar and GBPUA&T, Pantnagar, respectively. Similarly, in badminton (W) and table tennis (W), the PAU team won gold medal by defeating the team of MPUAT, Udaipur (2-0) and MAU, Parbhani (3-0), respectively. In athletics (M&W), the PAU won overall second runner up in men section with 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals, said Dr. Aulakh adding that Raj Kamal Singh Dhillon of College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, PAU was declared as the Best Athlete of the meet. Raj Kamal Singh Dhillon won 2 gold medals each in long jump and high jump while Manohardeep Singh of the same College won silver medal in 800 m. Periwinkle Grewal of College of Agriculture won 3 bronze medals each in discus throw, javelin throw and shot put while Harmeet Kaur of the same College won gold medal and silver medal in shot put and discus throw, respectively. The contingent was led by the badminton coach of PAU, Mr. Charanjit Singh accompanied by Mr. Jaspal Singh, SAI table tennis coach and Mr. Harjinder Singh, SAI basketball coach.

Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU lauded the achievements of PAU students and congratulated them for bringing laurels to the University. He remarked that PAU despite being a research organization has excelled in sports and games
