DR KANG RECIEVES BEST AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY AWARD FOR PAU

LUDHIANA, FEBRUARY 23:(Anmol Singh)

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been adjudged as the best agricultural university of 2011 and has bagged 'Krishi Shiksha Samman' for making purposeful contributions in the field of agriculture, thereby increasing productivity and enhancing rural prosperity. Out of the 22 nominations from various parts of India, PAU was selected for the Mahindra Samriddhi India Agri Awards 2011, by a panel of jury of eminent scientists and government functionaries, including Dr. Ishar Judge Ahloowalia, Chairman Planning Board, Punjab, Dr. Pawan Goenka, President Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd., Dr. Gurbachan Singh, Commissioner-Agricultural Machinery, Govt. of India, Dr. Barun Das, CEO, Zee News Ltd., Mr. Gokul Patnayak, Chairman, Global Agri-systems Ltd. and Dr. K.D.Kokate, Director, ICAR, chaired by Mr. P.K.Basu, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture. The award carries a \'Golden ear\' memento, a citation and a cash prize of rupees 2,11,000. The citation for this national award, signed by Mr. Anand Mahindra, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd., says that the award is given in recognition to an agricultural University for its purposeful and noteworthy contribution to the field of agriculture having a positive impact on the farming community, thus enabling them to rise.







The Union Minister of Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Mr Sharad Pawar gave away the award to PAU Vice- Chancellor Dr Manjit Singh Kang on February 21. Dr. Pawan Goenka, President Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has congratulated the PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Manjit Singh Kang and complemented PAU.







Dr Kang said that it was a matter of pride for PAU as once again the excellence of the university has been recognized at the national level. The University has played a pivotal role in ushering in the green revolution, which made the country food-surplus from food-deficit, said Dr Kang adding that PAU has and would continue to contribute lucrative agriculture to the farming community and the nation's food buffer. He, while congratulating the Deans, Directors, Officers, faculty, employees and students, said that it is a matter of pride that PAU\'s contribution to the field of agriculture has been recognized and said that it will motivate to excel further.







The other national award winners included Dr. M.V. Rao (Krishi Shiromini Samman), and Prof. M.S.Swaminathan (Agri-Icon of India) in addition to National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, Maharogi Sewa Samiti, and five farmers.
