Tewari raps govt for increasing power tariff

LUDHIANA, APRIL 25: Ludhiana MP and the national spokesperson of the All India Congress Committee Manish Tewari today criticised the state government for the unjustified and uncalled for hike in the power tariff in the state. He said, the decision was quite unfortunate and will put additional financial burden on the common man.

Addressing a couple of functions at Shimlapuri organised by former Mayor, Narhar Singh Gill and at Janakpuri organsied by local councillor Prithpal Singh Ghayal, yesterday Tewari said, it was shocking to learn that the government had increased the power tariff despite the fact that there was no power supply. He pointed out, the power scenario in the state is the worst ever and still the government had no qualms in increasing the tariff.

The MP said, this government has proved itself to be the most insensitive towards the problems of the people. He said, the power was not the only sector where the government had failed. He pointed out, even the procurement of wheat was the worst and the wheat stocks were lying unattended and uncared in the mandis. He recalled that during the Congress regime between 2002-2007 not a single grain of wheat was allowed to waste or rot as proper arrangements had been made well in advance. Compared to that, this government has left the farmers at their own destiny.

Among others present during these functions included former minister Malkiat Singh Dakha, former parliamentary secretary Surinder Dawer, District Youth Congress president Dimple Rana, District Mahila Congress President Leena Taparia, senior Congress leader Pawan Dewan, PCC secretary Satish Sharma Showman and others.

Meanwhile, Tewari had condemned the storage of illegal liquor in the godowns of Punjab Warehouse Corporation and demanded a high level inquiry to find out who was involved in it.
