Dewan says Capt’s stand vindicated

LUDHIANA,

Hailing the Supreme Court verdict setting aside the expulsion of former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh from the Punjab assembly and restoring his seat, General Secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Pawan Dewan said, it had vindicated the stand of the former Chief Minister and that of the Congress party that all the cases against the Congress leaders and workers were false and politically motivated.

In a statement issued here today, Dewan pointed out, the ruling SAD-BJP alliance in the state had used its brute majority to expel Capt Amarinder from the assembly in the most "undemocratic, unconstitutional and illegal manner". This was unprecedented in the democratic and legislative history of the country that the ruling party in order to settle personal and political score over a senior and prominent opposition leader had used its brute majority to expel him from the house.



The General Secretary said, the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should own the moral responsibility and apologise to the people of Punjab in general and the Patiala assembly constituency in particular for snatching away from them the right to be represented for almost two years.
