UAE urges citizens in Bangkok to return or take precaution

The UAE Embassy in Thailand urged its citizens in Bangkok either to return to their country or take extra caution and stay away from trouble spots, a source said.

Sources at the UAE Embassy told Gulf News that the embassy advised Emirati nationals in the Thai capital either to return or to be more cautious and move within restricted zones.

It also urged them to stay away from flash spots which has been witnessing a growing tension between the government and opponents (Red Shirts) , especially in the Business District in Bangkok.

The embassy said \"Emirati citizens, who violate these instructions, may be subject to security troubles, and hence they should bear personal responsibility.\"

The sources added that most Emirati citizens in Bangkok have chosen to cancel their reservations and residency, preferring to return to their country in fear of a escalation dangerously.

\"Most Emiratis who preferred to stay are patients who still receive treatment at Bangkok hospitals along with their escorts, especially at Bangkok International Hospital and Bumrungrad International Hospital,\" the sources said.

The embassy assured relatives of Emirati citizens in Thailand that these places are safe compared to places where clashes broke out between the Red Shirts and government forces.

\"All UAE nationals are fine and no casualties were reported,\" the sources said.

Most Emirati citizens have already left the hospital or cancelled their appointments, and there were only old people and a few number of their escorts who sleep with their sick relatives in the same hospital,\" an official at Bangkok International Hospital said in a telephone call with Gulf News.

The source said that the embassy has officially informed the hospital administration to postpone the appointments of patients coming from the UAE, except for those with critical conditions such as patients with cardiac diseases, kidney failure, and incurable cases.

He also said that the turnout of Emirati patients to Thai hospitals is on the decline, as it dropped to 70 per cent in the past two days.(http://gulfnews.com)
