BSF jawan attempts suicide

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan allegedly attempted suicide today by shooting himself while patrolling in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Head Constable Duli Chand of 45th Battalion of the BSF was with a road opening party (ROP) when he suddenly shot himself in the neck with his own service rifle at village Janbazpora, 50 km from here, the spokesman said.

His colleagues immediately shifted him to district hospital Baramulla where he was provided initial treatment, the spokesman said, adding he was later admitted to Army base hospital here for specialised treatment.

The spokesman said the police have registered a case and started investigation to ascertain the motive behind his taking the extreme step.
