Two day workshop on value-addition in carp fishes at Vet Varsity

College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) is going to organise two day workshop on value addition of carp fishes in collaboration with Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Cochin on 29th and 30th April 2010. The information was revealed by Dr, Kamaldeep kaur Dean, College of fisheries . She said that Carps have less consumer preference and fetch low market value due to presence of intramuscular bones. De-boning of carp flesh and preparation of value added products are therefore much needed for not only enhancing consumption of carp fish among the people of the state but also increasing farmer's profitability. The workshop will be attended by the officials of the State Fisheries department and fish farmers. Visiting Scientists- Dr. S. Ashalatha (Senior Scientist) and Mr. P.K. Vijayan (Principal Scientist) from CIFT, Cochin will interact with the fisheries scientists, State fisheries officials, fish farmers and students during the workshop. Deboning of carps and preparation of value-added products will also be demonstrated to the participants. The fish farmers who are in profession or interested in fish farming can also attend the workshop.
