LAHORE: Intelligence reports on Wednesday warned that two explosives-laden vehicles have entered Punjab and that terrorist activities could intensify in Peshawar in the next few days.

According to one of the reports, the banned militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is planning to hold the students of English-medium schools across Punjab hostage to force the government to free its arrested members. The report also mentioned that a Hyundai Shehzore and a Toyota Corolla, bearing registration numbers 8849 and 6849 respectively, were likely to be used in car bombings. It suggested putting security across Punjab on high alert, strict checking on entry and exit points of all the districts of the province, thorough inspection of all cars and increasing security at all educational institutions. The Punjab government has sought details from intelligence agencies regarding threats to educational institutions, the sources added. According to another report, 15 terrorists belonging to the Qari Hussain group, have entered Peshawar and reportedly plan to target the city's English-medium schools, the Peshawar Garrison Club, American centres and hotels. The report stated that Peshawar could become the focal point of the terrorists' activities as they try to pressurise the government and security forces, the sources said.
