Taliban destroy Nato tanker

Islamabad - Four policemen were killed on Saturday in Pakistan\'s eastern province of Punjab in a fight with Taliban militants who destroyed 10 tankers carrying oil supplies for the Nato-led international troops in land-locked Afghanistan.

The attack took place at a petrol pump in Tala Gang, located some 90km south of Islamabad, where the tankers were parked for a dinner break at a nearby restaurant.

Regional police chief, Aslam Tareen, said that the oil tankers were attacked with rocket propelled grenades and \"around a dozen\" were set on fire.

\"Later on, they exchanged intensive fire with the police and killed four of our officers while two more were injured,\" Tarin said, adding that additional police forces had been dispatched to capture or kill the assailants.

This was the deadliest attack on Nato supply convoys in Pakistan\'s eastern province of Punjab even though such raids are common in the neighbouring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, formerly known as North-West Frontier Province.

Nearly 75% of oil and food supplies and military hardware for the Nato troops in Afghanistan pass through Pakistan.
