(PAU) ZONAL REVIEW MEET ON PRECISION FARMING

LUDHIANA, JULY 21:-----



The Precision Farming Development Centre (PFDC), Department of Soil and Water Engineering, PAU, is organizing two days Zonal Annual Review Meet of PFDCs on July 22-23. Scientists from eight centres viz. Imphal, Hisar, Bikaner, Leh, Solan, Navsari, Jorhat and Ludhiana will be participating in the meet. The National Committee for Plasticulture Applications in Horticulture will review the progress made by the PFDCs and chalk out the work plan for the year 2011-12. The Directors of State Horticulture Mission and National Mission for Micro Irrigation of the respective states will also participate in the meet.



Dr. AK Jain, Head, Department of Soil and Water Engineering, said that the mandate of the Precision Farming Development Centre is to undertake trials, demonstrate and develop plasticulture applications suitable for the established region, development of package of practices for the selected crops using plasticulture technologies, to impart training to farmers on plasticulture applications as well as recommend packages of practices. He said that PFDC at PAU was established in 2008. Since then the centre has conducted 65 training programmes for the farmers as well as officers of the state government in the field of micro irrigation and protected cultivation and has established research cum demonstration farm on an area of five acres.
