NEW COURSES FOR 10+2 SCIENCE STUDENTS AT PAU

LUDHIANA, APRIL 21(Gurzent Saggu)

PAU has started new courses for 10+2 science pass outs in the basic sciences. According to the Dean, College of Basic Sciences & Humanities, PAU, Dr R.S. Sidhu, a new course, Five-Year Integrated M.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry has been started from this academic year. The 10+2 pass outs in medical and non-medical streams with minimum 50% marks are eligible for this course, he said. Under this course, the student has the option to leave the programme after successful completion of three years and earn B.Sc. degree. Yet, a student who gets admission directly for the M.Sc. (Hons) programme does not have to compete again for seeking admission in M.Sc. programme. Elaborating the other basic science programmes, Dr Sidhu said that the PAU had also started similar M.Sc. (Hons.) Five-Year Integrated courses in the disciplines of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Botany and Zoology last year for which, 10+2 medical and non-medical students are taken. Discussing about the employment potential of the courses, he said that after successful completion of these programmes, students can seek employment in pharmaceutical, agro-chemical, food processing industries, fermentation industries, hospitals & clinical laboratories, biotech industries and research & teaching organizations. The last date for applying to these courses is 12th May and the prospectus can be purchased from the Sale counters of the Centre for Communication and International Linkages of the University. The admission will be made on the basis of common entrance test to be conducted by PAU.
