Chief Secretary Punjab Visits Vet Varsity

Chief Secretary, Punjab Sh SC Aggarwal visited the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana today on 29.4.2011.Sh Aggarwal accompanied with Dr VK Taneja, Vice chancellor, GADVASU ,Deans, Directors and Registrar visited the university dairy farm, and biogas plant, fishery farm and poultry farms. Showing keen interest in successful inland saline water aquaculture trials conducted by the university, in salt affected waterlogged waste land in Fazilka, district Ferozepur, he said that utilization of these waste lands through aquaculture is certainly going to uplift the socio-economic status of the affected farmers of the salt affected areas in south west districts of the state. He also asked the university to test suitability of rearing some suitable brackish water species in inland saline waters. He also visited different colleges, School of Animal Biotechnology at the GADVASU campus. and was introduced with different teaching and research activities being taken up by them. Sh Aggrawal shown keen interest in GADVASU veterinary hospital and he along with Deputy Commissioner Sh Rahul Tiwari especially visited the Small Animal Clinic, clinical diagnostic lab. and different Units of the veterinary hospital. A brief presentation comprising the important activities and research achievement of College of Veterinary Science, School of Animal Biotechnology, College of Dairy Science and of Collage of Fisheries was given by the experts. Experts from different disciplines also revealed their future strategies; plan and proposal for betterment of livestock sector as a whole. Extension department also briefed the impact of its institute village linkage programme operational in village Gureh. Later on an interaction between dairy, goat, pig farmers and fisheries farmers was organized to acquaint the chief secretary about the various issues, problems and constraints faced by the livestock farmers of the Punjab. Sh. Aggarwal also inaugurated the hi-tech, seat of learning -GADVASU library. Processing machineries and processed products of milk and meat were also exhibited to the Chief Secretary. Mr. Aggarwal appreciated the GADVASU efforts and said that within a short span of 5 years GADVASU has given effective livestock technologies for rural development in Punjab and assured that the State Government will extend all possible assistance to the university to take up further challenges for sustainable development of livestock sector in the state
