PAU INKS MoU WITH ESCORTSo

LUDHIANA, APRIL 25:



The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Escorts Ltd., Faridabad for institution/industry interface activities aiming at academic excellence in the agriculture sector. The MoU was signed by Dr Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, and Rohtash Mal, Executive Director and CEO, Escorts Agri Machinery.



Speaking on this occasion, Dr Kang appreciated the long association between PAU and Escorts for enhancing the professional capabilities and providing job opportunities to the university students. He added that the MoU will set up collaborative training facilities and mechanisms laying emphasis on skill development through hands-on training and experiential learning and will also benefit the university, students, researchers and academicians. Besides strengthening the bond between both the institutions for the collaboration on research and extension programmes for joint development and promotion of new farm equipments/technologies, the alliance will also work towards developing equipment solutions that are purposeful.



Rohtash Mal, in his remarks, said that the collaboration will help us the appreciate and understand the hugely differentiated farm equipment need of today's Indian farmers-from small acreage requirements to those of large holdings-from various soil conditions to the needs of different crops-from use of newer and advanced implements to complex tractor applications.



In a meeting with PAU VC, Registrar, Deans, Directors and faculty of Agricultural engineering, Dr S.K.Tandon, Advisor of Farm Mechanisation, Escorts, referred to his association with the farm varsity and said, "Whatever I am today, it is just because of PAU. It is the best and will remain the best." He added that PAU has had commendable breakthroughs in agri research and has been closely working with implement manufacturers in development of different farm machines which best serve the needs of the farmers and are cost-effective. Dr Tandon told that this joint venture aims at blending technological know-how and customer needs for developing precision implements across cropping cycle which will help enhance production and productivity.



Dr PPS Lubana, Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAE&T), PAU, said that Escorts has been hiring students and supporting the university for the last 30 years. He also spoke on the scope of various collaborative activities under the public-private partnership for mutual benefits in today's knowledge based global economy.

Earlier, welcoming the VC and other dignitaries, Dr CJS Pannu, Research Coordinator (Engineering), highlighted that Escorts has played a pivotal role in farm mechanization and machinery development. Apart from imparting practical training to the first generation of agricultural engineers, they made enormous contribution to the PAU's farm machinery laboratory during the establishment of COAE&T by providing clutch system, cooling system and cut- models of engines, etc.
