PAU VC LAYS THE FOUNDATION STONE OF THE NEW GIRLS’ HOSTEL

LUDHIANA, APRIL 27:



The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Vice-Chancellor, Dr Manjit Singh Kang, laid the foundation stone of the new girls' hostel near the College of Home Science here today.



Speaking on this occasion, Dr Kang said, "It is a pro-active step. With the limited resources, we did our best effort. The new hostel, with 75 rooms and capacity of 225 students, would provide an excellent accommodation and new age facilities to the girl students. We have to cater to the new age and students would also be equipped with online facility in the hostels in future. " Recalling his own days of student life at PAU, he added that he has seen the development of agricultural varsity over the years.



Earlier, Dr Pushpinder Singh Aulakh, Director Students' Welfare (DSW), PAU, welcoming the participants, divulged that the number of the girls is increasing in all the four constituent colleges of PAU. Stating that the university has scaled new heights in research, extension and academic programs under the steward leadership of Dr Kang, he added that the construction of the new hostel would help in meeting the requirements of the girls in future.



Dr Gursharan Singh, Dean of Post Graduate Studies, PAU, proposing the vote of thanks, said, \"this is the beginning of beginning." He added that expertise, capacity building and infrastructure are of key importance to the students and the new hostel will have all the modern day facilities for the growing number of girls at PAU.



Earlier, the Chief Engineer, Dr. Jaspal Singh highlighted that the hostel will be constructed within two and half year with a budgetary layout of rupees 5.00 crore out of the ICAR fund. He said that the building will have 12 bathrooms with provision of hot water and other amenities. Dr. S.S.Sooch, Executive Engineer explained the proposed architectural layout of the building.



Those present on the occasion were deans, directors, additional directors, coordinators of research and other officials including the wardens and assistant wardens of different hostels.
