GADVASU scholar gets National INSPIRE fellowship

Dr Mamta Pandey, PhD student, School of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University , Ludhiana has been bestowed the INSPIRE (Innovation Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) fellowship by the Science and Technology Ministry, Govt of India. Dr Mamta did her M.V.Sc in Animal Biotechnology from GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar and is presently pursuing her PhD programme in School of Animal Biotechnology. She will work on molecular characterization of classical swine fever virus during her PhD programme. Classical swine fever is one of the common disease of pigs which carries great economic significance in India including Punjab. Dr Gurvinder Singh Brah, Director of the School said that Dr Mamta is the first student from School to get INSPIRE fellowship which amounts to Rs 2,16,000 a year along with a contingency grant of Rs 20,000 each year for five years. Further, school boosts to have developed state of the art research and teaching facilities and all of the PhD pass outs are presently employed in the regular teaching and research positions in the premium institutes of the country. Dr Ramneek, Professor and Major Advisor of the student elaborated that INSPIRE is a Program launched by the Government of India to strengthen the National Science and Technology base and is being implemented by the Department of Science and Technology to attract student to pursue doctoral degree in basic and applied sciences. Dr.V.K.Taneja, Vice Chancellor and Dr SNS Randhawa, Dean, Post Graduate Studies, GADVASU congratulated Dr Mamta for bringing laurel to the institute which will motivate fellow students of the university to emulate it. Dr Randhawa informed that majority of the School of Animal Biotechnology doctorate students of the school are being funded by various agencies.
