ANNUAL DAY OF BASIC SCIENCES COLLEGE CELEBRATED AT PAU WITH GAIETY AND GUSTO

LUDHIANA, MAY 16



The Annual Day of the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) "Jashn-E-Baharan" was celebrated with gaiety and gusto. The students gave splendid performance on vast array of items such as dance, skit, kavishri, poetic recitation, short plays, choreography, during the function, organized by the Society for Advancement of Academics, Sports and Cultural Activities (SAASCA). Presentations on diverse themes including female foeticide, women protection, natural resource conservation, etc., enthralled the jam packed audience. Deans, directors, additional directors, heads and faculty of various departments, and the students of the College attended the programme.



Presiding over the function, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice–Chancellor, PAU, described the student life as a golden period of one's life. Appreciating the performance of the students of "Interactive Skills and Personality Enhancement" course on the environment protection, he exhorted the youth to take instill human values as they are the need of the hour. Dr Dhillon also underlined the need to protect the precious natural resources for the future generation.







In his address, the Guest of Honour, Dr P.K. Khanna, PAU Registrar, stated that the University administration is making best efforts to provide better hostel facilities to the students. Recalling his student days, he called upon the generation Y to work hard, achieve their academic goals and become responsible citizens of the nation.







Dr R.S. Sidhu, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, congratulated the prize winning students. On this occasion, Yadhu Suneja and Nishu Joshi were awarded SAASCA Best Students Award for Excellence in Academics, followed by Sumeet Goyal and Rahul Jain for Sports, and Anna Goyal and Subhrajit Mishra for cultural activities for the year 2009 and 2010, respectively. A total of 29 M.Sc. and Ph.D Students from various departments of the College were honoured with SAASCA highest OCPA awards.







Earlier, Dr Mann Singh Toor, Professor of Economics, welcomed the audience and presented an overview of SAASCA activities.



Dr Gurinder K. Sangha, Head, Department of Zoology, proposed a vote of thanks.







Dr Sheetal Thapar, Associate Professor, Journalism and Dr Davinder Kaur, Associate Professor, Zoology coordinated the programme. Gursewak Singh and Navneet Sharma were the student comperers.
