PAU VC CONFERRED WITH PRESTIGIOUS J.C. BOSE FELLOWSHIP

LUDHIANA, MAY 21:



The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi, has bestowed the prestigious "J.C. Bose National Fellowship" on the Vice-Chancellor of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon in recognition of his outstanding performance and contributions to the scientific research. The "J.C. Bose National Fellowship" is a scientist-specific and a very selective award, which is meant to recognize active and performing scientists and engineers in the country.



Under this award, a sum of Rs 29,46,667/- has been sanctioned for the duration of two years. Out of the sanctioned amount, a total of Rs 6,50,000 has been provided to Dr Dhillon as a fellowship, which he has decided to donate to the PAU Endowment Fund.



A well-known expert of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Dr Dhillon has served in various capacities before joining as the PAU VC. He served as the Director of National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, Additional Director General (Crop Science), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR); and the Director of Research and Director Seeds at PAU. Besides, he has worked at the University of Honenheim, Stuttgart, Germany, on Maize Biotechnology. Dr Dhillon is a fellow of Indian National Science Academy, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and National Academy of Sciences. In addition, he has also been awarded German Academic Exchange Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship.



Dr Dhillon is a recipient of several prestigious national awards/honours such as Rafi Ahmad Kidwai Memorial Prize, Om Parkash Bhasin Award for Science and Technology, Dr Harbhajan Singh Memorial Award, ICAR Joginder Singh Memorial Award, Punjab Ratan and many others.
