Iraqi Governor survives two bomb attacks

Baghdad: 30 May 2013

The Governor of Iraq\'s Salahudin province on Wednesday miraculously escaped two bomb attacks, but five of his bodyguards were wounded.

Two car bombs went off simultaneously near the convoy of vehicles carrying Governor Ahmed Abdulla al-Jubouri while he was returning to his house in a village north of the provincial capital Tikrit, 170 km from Baghdad, an official said.

The blasts destroyed three vehicles and wounded five of the Governor\'s bodyguards. Earlier in the day, the governor escaped another bombing when an explosive planted by the roadside struck his convoy, damaging two vehicles. No one was killed, the official said.

On May 21, Jubouri escaped unhurt another assassination attempt when two roadside bombs hit his convoy on a main road between the provinces of Salahudin and Kirkuk. Tikrit is the hometown of the former president Saddam Hussein who was later hanged.
