AGRO-PROCESSING COMPLEX ESTABLISHED AT FARIDKOT UNDER PAU GUIDANCE

LUDHIANA, MAY 21:

Under the able guidance of the Department of Processing and Food Engineering of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), an agro-processing complex "Baba Jani Agro Food Processing" has been established at village Panj Garaiyan of district Faridkot. The complex, owned by S. Ranjit Singh S/o. S. Darshan Singh, has been set-up with the active technical support from the PAU under the aegis of All India Coordinated Research Project on Post-Harvest Technology. The PAU scientists including Dr Amarjit Singh, Er Sandhya and Technical Investigator, S. Mahal Singh attended the inaugural ceremony.

Dr Ashok Kumar, Head, Department of Processing and Food Engineering, said that such plants will not only enhance the income of the farmers but will also generate employment opportunities for the rural masses. "This agro-processing plant is the result of the efforts, put in by the PAU, for turning producers into processors for value addition of agricultural produce," he highlighted. "This plant includes wheat flour milling unit, oil expeller with filter press and masala grinder. It will help in processing of produce at farm gate itself, thus, making local availability of quality processed products at nominal price," he informed. Observing that the post-harvest losses due to transportation and handling can be controlled, Dr Singh exhorted the other farmers of the area to set-up such plants in future for good higher income.
