PAU DEPUTES AMBASSDORS IN PUNJAB VILLAGES

LUDHIANA, JUNE 15:2012

One of the initiatives taken recently by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to strengthen its contacts with farmers at grass root level was to identify atleast one person in every village who can act as PAU ambassador, called \'PAU Doots\'. Discussing the plan, the Director of Extension Education, Dr M.S.Gill said that it is the novel concept put forth by the PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, that the University has put into action and added that so far 4230 \'PAU Doots\' have been placed one in each village in 11 districts throughout Punjab.

These Doots are contacted via e-mail and sent messages about need-based advice, flash messages, technical information, etc. to be conveyed to farmers using public address system. In turn, they pass on the feedback of farmers to experts that, he said. It will help experts reprioritize their research and technology transfer programmes to serve the farming community, better. Dr Gill further informed that PAU has also registered in different districts, 8500 farmers through its 17 Krishi Vigyan Kendras which are being flashed messages and other useful technical tips through its Kisan Mobile Advisory Service (KMAS).
